Picchio Racing Cars

Picchio Racing Cars is a very, very tiny Italian racing and road cars manufacturer based in Ancarano.

In 1989 a group of young friends living in Ascoli Piceno, with a strong passion for the motor sport, had the idea to establish a company constructing "copies" of the cars manufactured by Engineer Giotto Bizzarrini.

During the first encounter, the Tuscan motor genius expressed a kind of animus towards this idea or, rather, he strongly refused to support the project and he turned the group of friends out. Nevertheless, their motivation was so strong that, after a short briefing of about half an hour, they presented an alternative proposal: to construct a sports car. The result was the Picchio.

The SR2 was the first Picchio's racing car, introduced in 1998. In 2003 Picchio designed a new racing car for the American championship Grand Am, the DP2. The Picchio DP2 placed third at Rolex Daytona in 2003.

2004. Picchio designed a new prototype for hillclimb Championship: CN2 Light. This car has very innovative technical solution: front and rear monodamper. The cars were successfully raced in the Italian Hillclimb Championship and Italian Sportscar Championship. 2010. Picchio manufactured a new racing car for hillclimb Championship: P4/E2. This car is the one in its category with a 1750 cc turbo engine, developed by Picchio staff. This choice allows Picchio to study new downsizing solutions to transfer in their road cars. Christian Merliin the official P4/E2 driver, he wins 6 races in 7 run off.

Since 2007, Picchio has been involved in studying new solutions for electric and hybrid vehicles. "Dany" is an electric power citycar design by Picchio for Belumbury.

Famous quotes containing the words racing and/or cars:

Upscale people are fixated with food simply because they are now able to eat so much of it without getting fat, and the reason they don’t get fat is that they maintain a profligate level of calorie expenditure. The very same people whose evenings begin with melted goat’s cheese ... get up at dawn to run, break for a mid-morning aerobics class, and watch the evening news while racing on a stationary bicycle.
    Barbara Ehrenreich (b. 1941)

The reason American cars don’t sell anymore is that they have forgotten how to design the American Dream. What does it matter if you buy a car today or six months from now, because cars are not beautiful. That’s why the American auto industry is in trouble: no design, no desire.
    Karl Lagerfeld (b. 1938)
