Philip Hogarty
Philip David Hogarty (April 18, 1988 – January 1, 2008) was chairman of the Irish Chess Union from September 2006 until his death in January 2008. He was born at Holles Street, Dublin and raised in Baggot Street until in 1990, at the age of two, he moved to Jobstown in Tallaght, County Dublin.
Phil was hit by a Garda car shortly after 2:30 am on January 1. He died later that day at 4:10 pm. Philip’s popularity is evidenced by the great sadness felt across the city of Dublin and the country of Ireland at his death. It was also evidenced at his funeral Mass where a large crowd squeezed into St. Thomas’ church in Jobstown to bid their friend a final farewell.
