Career
Rauhofer was a popular DJ who spun throughout the United States. He was the former resident DJ at the weekly gay dance night held at the Roxy in New York, which closed its doors in 2007. Rauhofer is currently the resident DJ of the gay dance party called "Work." Peter's party was held weekly at the Stereo nightclub in New York until March 3, 2008 when the City invoked eminent domain and acquired the building. "Work" is currently a monthly event, despite lacking a permanent venue.
Rauhofer is mostly known for spinning tribal house and used to play many gay circuit party events, until a falling out with the organizers of the White Party in Miami, a fundraiser for the AIDS charity Care Resource. In 2009, Rauhofer angered national and Miami gay activists when he produced an event the same night as the Winter Party, a charity event produced by the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force. In 2010, local activists protested outside Rauhofer's event, sporting t-shirts emblazoned with the logo "StopPeter.com", and claiming that Rauhofer was "profiteering on the backs of the LGBT community. In addition, twenty-five Miami community leaders signed an open letter to Rauhofer and The Opium Group, owners of the club hosting Rauhofer's event, asking them to "not sponsor a competing party next year." Rauhofer ignored these requests, and produced a competing party in 2011. One is also scheduled in 2012.
Peter Rauhofer (Club 69) won the Grammy Award in 2000 for Best Remixer of the Year for his remix of Cher Believe song.
