Accident and Incidents

Perimeter Airlines has had five reported accidents.

  • 1 Nov 1996, a Swearingen SA.226TC Metro II aircraft was on a routine scheduled flight (PAG207) from Winnipeg (YWG) to Gods Lake Narrows (YGO) to Gods River (ZGI), with a return flight to Winnipeg. The right main landing gear touched down approximately 345 feet before reaching the threshold of runway 27. The wheels of the right landing gear traveled about 20 feet and struck a snow ridge which had been created as snow removal equipment turned in the under run area. The ridge was about two feet high and consisted of frozen snow. The right landing gear drag links failed and the right gear moved rearward pivoting at the trunnion. The left gear wheels touched down about 326 feet ahead of the runway threshold. The aircraft slid off the right side of the runway and sustained substantial damage. The right main landing gear punctured the fuel tank in the right wing when the gear collapsed. The aircraft had two pilots and five passengers on board and there were no fatalities.
  • 11 Oct 2001, Swearingen SA.226TC Metro II Perimeter Flight 962 had departed God's Lake Narrows for a short 27 minute medevac flight to Shamattawa, to pick up a patient. The crew were flying a night time approach to runway 01 when they carried out a missed approach because they were too high and too fast. The aircraft flew into trees slightly to the left of the runway centreline in a muskeg area about 2600 feet from the departure end of runway 01. A post-crash fire was confined to the wings which had separated from the cabin and cockpit wreckage. There were two pilots and one passenger on board. Both pilots were killed in the crash.
  • 8 Nov 2006, Swearingen SA.226TC Metro II On touchdown at Norway House (YNE), when propeller reverse was selected, the Metro II aircraft turned toward the left side of runway 05. Before the turn could be corrected, the left main tire passed beyond the runway lights and contacted loose snow. The aircraft traversed a ditch then climbed a soil-covered rocky embankment. All three landing gears collapsed and the aircraft came to rest upright and on its belly. The crew and passengers exited the aircraft via the over-wing exits and the main door stairway. There were two pilots and seven passengers on the aircraft, and all exited with no fatalities.
  • 3 Mar 2009, Swearingen SA.226TC Metro II Perimeter Flight PAG 640, a Metro II with two crew and eight passengers, was on approach to runway 18 at Winnipeg after a flight from St. Theresa Point when the crew carried out a missed approach due to landing gear problems. The right main gear would not extend in the down and locked position. The crew attempted a landing with the right main gear up and possibly hoped to free the gear to extend, however, this was unsuccessful and they subsequently elected to land gear up on their second approach. The aircraft landed successfully on its belly and came to a stop on the runway. The aircraft landed between Taxiways P and Q and all 10 occupants were evacuated and were transported to the hospital as a precaution. There were no obvious injuries and there was no fire after landing. The aircraft sustained substantial damage to its propellers, flaps and aft belly area. Inspection by TSB indicated that the inboard right main landing gear door partially hung up on the wheel well structure, preventing the extension of the landing gear. The reason for the gear door interference is under investigation. This aircraft was involved in an unsafe gear incident the previous day at Winnipeg.
  • On December 23, 2012, a Swearingen SA227-AC Metro III passenger plane with nine people aboard, operated by Perimeter on behalf of Kivalliq Air crashed at Sanikiluaq Airport (YSK) in Sanikiluaq, Nunavut, killing an infant boy and injuring several others.
