Pennsylvania Route 663 - History

History

PA 663 was once part of the Steinsburg and Milford Square Turnpike. The turnpike was chartered in March 1858. The "PA 663" designation first appeared on maps in 1930. At that time, the northern terminus of PA 663 was at the PA 73 intersection with New Hanover Township, although that was changed in 1936. In 1936, PA 663 was extended to an intersection with PA 309 and PA 313 in Quakertown. In 1950, the segment of PA 663 from Spinnerstown to Milford Square was given pavement. After construction began in 1973, a new alignment of PA 663 from Pennsburg to the Northeast Extension opened a year later.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

... that there is no other way,
That the history of creation proceeds according to
    Stringent laws, and that things
Do get done in this way, but never the things
We set out to accomplish and wanted so desperately
    To see come into being.
    John Ashbery (b. 1927)

We know only a single science, the science of history. One can look at history from two sides and divide it into the history of nature and the history of men. However, the two sides are not to be divided off; as long as men exist the history of nature and the history of men are mutually conditioned.
    Karl Marx (1818–1883)

The history of the world is none other than the progress of the consciousness of freedom.
    Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (1770–1831)
