Arts and Culture

The Broadway Theatre is one of Nutana's cultural cornerstones. A designated municipal heritage property, the Broadway Theatre is Saskatoon's only community-owned and operated cinema and live performance venue.

The Saskatoon German Club Concordia was founded in 1957 to promote and hold special events celebrating German culture. The club moved into temporary quarters in Nutana in 2009, after an act of arson destroyed their building. They moved into the former Off Broadway Arts Centre, which was a primarily a dinner theatre and also operated a children's theatre program, theatre classes and drama/art camps.

Originally the parish hall of St. James' Anglican Church, the Refinery Arts & Spirit Centre is a multi-purpose facility that hosts arts and wellness classes and workshops, meetings and conferences, and live performances.

Famous quotes containing the words arts and, arts and/or culture:

For me, the principal fact of life is the free mind. For good and evil, man is a free creative spirit. This produces the very queer world we live in, a world in continuous creation and therefore continuous change and insecurity. A perpetually new and lively world, but a dangerous one, full of tragedy and injustice. A world in everlasting conflict between the new idea and the old allegiances, new arts and new inventions against the old establishment.
    Joyce Cary (1888–1957)

    Eliot dead, you saying,
“And who is left to understand my jokes?
My old Brother in the arts . . . and besides, he was a smash of
    poet.”
    Robert Lowell (1917–1977)

The second fundamental feature of culture is that all culture has an element of striving.
    Johan Huizinga (1872–1945)
