Nottingham Thieves - Team History

Team History

The idea for a University of Nottingham baseball club was originated by two students at the university, Adam Brown & Oli Ross. In 2006 the two met and discovered their shared love for the game, together they decided to establish a university baseball team. The drive to recruit players began with a poster campaign throughout the university, and soon a base of players was formed. The team became affiliated to the university's athletic union later in the year and was now recognised as an official university sports team.

The Thieves played their first competitive match against another official club on 28 October 2006 away against the Southampton University Mustangs resulting in a 7 - 1 victory for the Thieves. The club's first official home game (at Grove Farm) was played on 4 March 2007 against national club side, the Manchester Eagles. The game resulted in a 9 - 5 victory for the Thieves.

The club continues to grow, increasing popularity of the game throughout the university. The team represents itself at university fairs in a bid to increase membership. Many of the team's active players are foreign students studying at the university.

Famous quotes containing the words team and/or history:

Imagination is a valuable asset in business and she has a sister, Understanding, who also serves. Together they make a splendid team and business problems dissolve and the impossible is accomplished by their ministrations.... Imagination concerning the world’s wants and the individual’s needs should be the Alpha and Omega of self-education.
    Alice Foote MacDougall (1867–1945)

All things are moral. That soul, which within us is a sentiment, outside of us is a law. We feel its inspiration; out there in history we can see its fatal strength.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
