Performance
The school consistently achieves highly, being one of only 19 secondary schools to be rated outstanding in its previous three inspections. The school also receives criticism, however, as it is one of the few "highly selective" schools in England taking just the top ten per cent of students. In the 2011 BBC GCSE League Tables report, NHGS was ranked 17th in the country, higher than local rivals Crossley Heath Grammar School and other notable schools, such as Eton College.
Absence is low, with the Department for Education reporting the school's unauthorised absence rate negligible.

Famous quotes containing the word performance:
“O world, world! thus is the poor agent despised. O traitors and bawds, how earnestly are you set a-work, and how ill requited! Why should our endeavour be so loved, and the performance so loathed?”
—William Shakespeare (15641616)
“Tennis is more than just a sport. Its an art, like the ballet. Or like a performance in the theater. When I step on the court I feel like Anna Pavlova. Or like Adelina Patti. Or even like Sarah Bernhardt. I see the footlights in front of me. I hear the whisperings of the audience. I feel an icy shudder. Win or die! Now or never! Its the crisis of my life.”
—Bill Tilden (18931953)
“Having an identity at work separate from an identity at home means that the work role can help absorb some of the emotional shock of domestic distress. Even a mediocre performance at the office can help a person repair self-esteem damaged in domestic battles.”
—Faye J. Crosby (20th century)
