Thaipoosam is also special in Neyveli because of its proximity to Vadalur, the famous place of samathi of saint Vallalar Sri. Ramalinga Adigalar that is just 7 km away.

The most important festival celebrated is "Panguni Uthiram" festival for the Lord Murugan at Villudayanpatti Temple.

Famous quotes containing the word religion:

Talk to me about the truth of religion and I’ll listen gladly. Talk to me about the duty of religion and I’ll listen submissively. But don’t come talking to me about the consolations of religion or I shall suspect that you don’t understand.
    —C.S. (Clive Staples)

Is there any religion but this, to know, that, wherever in the wide desert of being, the holy sentiment we cherish has opened into a flower, it blooms for me? If none sees it, I see it; I am aware, if I alone, of the greatness of the fact. Whilst it blooms, I will keep sabbath or holy time, and suspend my gloom, and my folly and jokes.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
