Nauru National Soccer Team

The Nauru national soccer team is an international team from the Republic of Nauru. However it is not a member of the OFC or FIFA, and is therefore not eligible to enter either the World Cup or OFC Nations Cup.

The national team is the most important organ of the Nauru Amateur Soccer Association. NASA was formed in 1973 and since then has been inconspicuous outside of the country. The federation is as yet unrecognized by either FIFA or the OFC as an official national soccer federation. There are no soccer stadiums in Nauru; the incomplete sports stadium in Meneng may provide a venue suitable for international matches.

On 2 October 1994 the Nauruan national soccer team played a friendly match in Denigomodu against a team from the Solomon Islands. Nauru won the match 2–1 against the winners of the Melanesian Cup the same year. As they won their only game, they have a 100% win/loss record.

Famous quotes containing the words national, soccer and/or team:

Reporters for tabloid newspapers beat a path to the park entrance each summer when the national convention of nudists is held, but the cult’s requirement that visitors disrobe is an obstacle to complete coverage of nudist news. Local residents interested in the nudist movement but as yet unwilling to affiliate make observations from rowboats in Great Egg Harbor River.

    We want beans, not goals.

They’re two good old friends of mine. I call them Constitution and The Bill of Rights. A most dependable team for long journeys. Then I’ve got another one called Missouri Compromise. And a Supreme Court—a fine, dignified horse, though you have to push him on every now and then.
