National Salvation Front in Syria

The National Salvation Front in Syria (Arabic: جبهة الخلاص الوطني في سوريا‎ Jabhat Al-Khalāṣ Al-Waṭanīy fi Sūrīya; French: Front de salut national en Syrie) is a Syrian opposition political party founded and based in Belgium. It was founded by Abdul Halim Khaddam, former Vice President of Syria and interim President from June–July 2000, and nationalist, moderate Islamist, liberal and social-democratic opposition factions in exile in the year 2005. It aims to bring down the dictatorial government of Bashar Al-Assad peacefully. The NSF had its last meeting on September 16, 2007 in Berlin, where some 140 opposition figures attended. The NSF also has offices in France, Germany, and the United States.

Recently, during the Syrian civil war, the National Salvation Front in Syria, as a political party of the Syrian opposition in exile, is preparing a series of demonstrations and protests in cities of the United States and Western Europe.

Famous quotes containing the words national, salvation, front and/or syria:

In our brief national history we have shot four of our presidents, worried five of them to death, impeached one and hounded another out of office. And when all else fails, we hold an election and assassinate their character.
    —P.J. (Patrick Jake)

You are told a lot about your education, but some beautiful, sacred memory, preserved since childhood, is perhaps the best education of all. If a man carries many such memories into life with him, he is saved for the rest of his days. And even if only one good memory is left in our hearts, it may also be the instrument of our salvation one day.
    Feodor Dostoyevsky (1821–1881)

For as she eats wisdom like the halves of a pear she puts one foot in front of the other. She climbs the dark wing.
    Anne Sexton (1928–1974)
