History
Nan Chiau Primary School is a government-aided school under the Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan (SHHK). Nan Chiau Primary School and Nan Chiau High School were originally one school but were separated after the move to Sengkang New Town from Kim Yam Road in River Valley, where it was first located.
Nan Chiau School was founded in 1947 as Nan Chiau Girl's School. Due to an increase in the population of students, the school was rebuilt at Kim Yam Road in 1969. When the school became co-educational in 1984, it was renamed Nan Chiau High School. In 2001, the school moved to Sengkang New Town and began operating as two separate schools.
It is currently constructing an indoor sports stadium that will be completed in 2012.

Famous quotes containing the word history:
“The thing that struck me forcefully was the feeling of great age about the place. Standing on that old parade ground, which is now a cricket field, I could feel the dead generations crowding me. Here was the oldest settlement of freedmen in the Western world, no doubt. Men who had thrown off the bands of slavery by their own courage and ingenuity. The courage and daring of the Maroons strike like a purple beam across the history of Jamaica.”
—Zora Neale Hurston (18911960)
“The history of American politics is littered with bodies of people who took so pure a position that they had no clout at all.”
—Ben C. Bradlee (b. 1921)
“There is no example in history of a revolutionary movement involving such gigantic masses being so bloodless.”
—Leon Trotsky (18791940)
