Design and Description
Authorized in 1917, and allocated the design number A-102, the class was designed by Captain Yuzuru Hiraga. The Nagato class was based on the hull design of the Ise class with a main armament of eight 16-inch guns instead of twelve 14-inch while retaining a similar broadside weight.

Famous quotes containing the words design and/or description:
“To nourish children and raise them against odds is in any time, any place, more valuable than to fix bolts in cars or design nuclear weapons.”
—Marilyn French (20th century)
“I fancy it must be the quantity of animal food eaten by the English which renders their character insusceptible of civilisation.
