Murray Central (UTA Station) - Description

Description

The parking lot for TRAX is located at 5144 Cottonwood Street and is accessed from either East Vine Street on the north or 5300 (SR-173) at 100 West. The parking lot for FrontRunner is located at 140 East Vine Street. However, both TRAX and FrontRunner are easily accessed from either parking lot. To the east of the station is the Intermountain Medical Center, with its large parking lot between. Between the two free Park and Ride lots, there are nearly 1,100 parking spaces available. The adjacent Intermoutain Medical Center was built on the site of the former Murray Smelter. The Murray Downtown Historic District is across Little Cottonwood Creek to the northeast. The station is located within the Quiet Zone, so trains do not routinely sound their horns when approaching public crossings within this corridor. The TRAX portion of the station opened on 4 December 2001 and the FrontRunner portion opened, along with the rest of FrontRunner South, on 10 December 2012. The station is operated by the Utah Transit Authority.

All of UTA's TRAX and FrontRunner trains and stations, as well as all fixed route buses, are compliant with Americans with Disabilities Act and are therefore accessible to those with disabilities. Since not all FrontRunner passenger cars are wheelchair accessible, signage at the stations, on the passenger platforms, on the FrontRunner passenger cars, and TRAX trains clearly indicate accessibility options. In addition, each FrontRunner train has one or more Train Hosts available to provide assistance as may be needed, including the placement of ramps for wheelchair boarding. Ramps on the passenger platforms on the Blue Line and assistance from the train operator may be necessary for wheelchair boarding (weekdays only). These ramps are not used on weekends nor on the Red Line. In accordance with the Utah Clean Air Act and UTA ordinance, "smoking is prohibited on UTA vehicles as well as UTA bus stops, TRAX stations, and FrontRunner stations".

Famous quotes containing the word description:

The type of fig leaf which each culture employs to cover its social taboos offers a twofold description of its morality. It reveals that certain unacknowledged behavior exists and it suggests the form that such behavior takes.
    Freda Adler (b. 1934)

As they are not seen on their way down the streams, it is thought by fishermen that they never return, but waste away and die, clinging to rocks and stumps of trees for an indefinite period; a tragic feature in the scenery of the river bottoms worthy to be remembered with Shakespeare’s description of the sea-floor.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

The Sage of Toronto ... spent several decades marveling at the numerous freedoms created by a “global village” instantly and effortlessly accessible to all. Villages, unlike towns, have always been ruled by conformism, isolation, petty surveillance, boredom and repetitive malicious gossip about the same families. Which is a precise enough description of the global spectacle’s present vulgarity.
    Guy Debord (b. 1931)
