Munish Chandra Puri - Death

Death

Prof. M.C.Puri, was attending the International Conference on operations research applications in infrastructure development in conjunction with the 38th Annual Convention of ORSI, which was organized by the Bangalore Chapter of ORSI from December 27-December 29, 2005 at J.N.Tata Auditorium, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India.

At about 7 p.m. after convention was over at JN Tata Auditorium he with his three colleagues were walking towards the seminar hall of management studies for Annual General Body meeting of ORSI when suddenly bullets were fired from the back within the auditorium complex. Initially the firing was mistaken for crackers but Prof. M.C.Puri soon recognized that it was gunfire and his last words “this is bullet firing lie down” saved the lives of three other participants who were with him at that particular moment when the firing took place - but he was not able to save himself.

Prof M. C. Puri became a victim of the first ever terror attack in Bangalore.

Famous quotes containing the word death:

When I consider how my light is spent,
Ere half my days, in this dark world and wide,
And that one talent which is death to hide
    Lodged with me useless.
    John Milton (1608–1674)

if thou slip thy troth and do not come at all.
As minutes in the clock do strike so call for death I shall:
To please both thy false heart, and rid myself from woe,
That rather had to die in troth than live forsaken so.
—Unknown. The Lady Prayeth the Return of Her Lover Abiding on the Seas (l. 19–22)

It was not death he feared—it was the disgrace of death, and the misery of the ignominious preparations. He knew in his heart that heaven could not call it murder that he had done; but he felt equally sure that man would do so.
    Anthony Trollope (1815–1882)
