Mountain View (NJT Station) - Lackawanna Railroad Station

Lackawanna Railroad Station

A second Mountain View station, this one on the Lackawanna line from Hoboken on the Boonton Branch, once stood near the Parish Drive bridge, behind the PAL facility. Evidence of the freight house platforms, stairways, track dividers, etc. are still visible. This station had passenger rail service until the 1963 realignment project. The Morris Canal passed through the western most bridge pier of the Parish Drive overpass.

Famous quotes containing the words railroad station, railroad and/or station:

... no other railroad station in the world manages so mysteriously to cloak with compassion the anguish of departure and the dubious ecstasies of return and arrival. Any waiting room in the world is filled with all this, and I have sat in many of them and accepted it, and I know from deliberate acquaintance that the whole human experience is more bearable at the Gare de Lyon in Paris than anywhere else.
    M.F.K. Fisher (1908–1992)

The worst enemy of good government is not our ignorant foreign voter, but our educated domestic railroad president, our prominent business man, our leading lawyer.
    John Jay Chapman (1862–1933)

It was evident that the same foolish respect was not here claimed for mere wealth and station that is in many parts of New England; yet some of them were the “first people,” as they are called, of the various towns through which we passed.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
