Mounds View Basketball

For over fifty years the Mounds View Mustangs have been a pillar of success in Minnesota boys' high school basketball. The Mustangs have made 13 appearances in the state tournament with two state championships and several conference championships. There have only been two coaches in school history, Jim Geske and Ziggy Kauls. At the end of the 2011-2012 season, Ziggy Kauls will be retiring after 45 seasons. In addition, the home floor for the Mounds View Mustangs will be renamed Kauls court. Ziggy Kauls is 3rd all-time in wins for the state of Minnesota. The program has also produced three Mr. Basketball Award winners since its inception in 1975 (Steve Schlotthauer 1986, Nick Horvath 1999, and Travis Busch 2005).

Famous quotes containing the words view and/or basketball:

One might feel that, at my age, I should look on life with more gravity. After all, I’ve been privileged to listen, firsthand, to some of the most profound thinkers of my day ... who were all beset by gloom over the condition the world had gotten into. Then why can’t I view it with anything but amusement?
    Anita Loos (1894–1981)

Perhaps basketball and poetry have just a few things in common, but the most important is the possibility of transcendence. The opposite is labor. In writing, every writer knows when he or she is laboring to achieve an effect. You want to get from here to there, but find yourself willing it, forcing it. The equivalent in basketball is aiming your shot, a kind of strained and usually ineffective purposefulness. What you want is to be in some kind of flow, each next moment a discovery.
    Stephen Dunn (b. 1939)
