Moscow State Academy Of Choreography

The Moscow State Academy of Choreography (Russian: Московская государственная академия хореографии - abbreviated as МГАХ, formally known in Russian as Московское академическое хореографическое училище - abbreviated as МАХУ), commonly known as The Bolshoi Ballet Academy, is one of the oldest and most prestigious schools of ballet in the world, located in Moscow, Russia. It is the affiliate school of the Bolshoi Ballet.

The Bolshoi Ballet receives the majority of its dancers from the Academy, as does most other Moscow ballet companies. Numerous choreographers, instructors and graduates of the academy have become renowned in Russian ballet and internationally, including Maya Plisetskaya, one of only two ballerinas of the Soviet Union to be bestowed a "prima ballerina assoluta", the ultimate title for a ballet performer.

Famous quotes containing the words moscow, state and/or academy:

Napoleon is a torrent which as yet we are unable to stem. Moscow will be the sponge that will suck him dry.
    Mikhail Kutuzov (1745–1813)

On the whole our armed services have been doing pretty well in the way of keeping us defended, but I hope our State Department will remember that it is really the department of achieving peace ...
    Eleanor Roosevelt (1884–1962)

I realized early on that the academy and the literary world alike—and I don’t think there really is a distinction between the two—are always dominated by fools, knaves, charlatans and bureaucrats. And that being the case, any human being, male or female, of whatever status, who has a voice of her or his own, is not going to be liked.
    Harold Bloom (b. 1930)
