Morita Therapy - Morita's Four Stages

Morita's Four Stages

Morita therapy was developed to deal with what Dr. Morita defined as Shinkeishitsu - “anxiety-based disorders” involving a high degree of perfectionism.

Morita offered a four-stage process of therapy involving:

  • Isolation and rest
  • Occupational therapy (light)
  • Occupational therapy (heavy)
  • Complex activities.

Morita therapy may be seen as a form of re-socialisation, involving a social influence process.
