The Former Montana Executive Mansion is a property in Helena, Montana, that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places by that name in 1970.
In 1913, the state of Montana acquired a mansion to serve as the official residence for the governor of Montana. The house and carriage house were built originally in 1888 by William Chessman. Between 1913 and 1959, it was home to nine Montana governors and their families.
Also known as the William Chessman Mansion or the Original Governor's Mansion, it was built, or has other significance, in 1888. It is in Queen Anne style, and was designed by the St. Paul, Minnesota, firm of Hodgson, Stem, & Welter.
The listing included two contributing buildings on an area of 1 acre (0.40 ha).

Famous quotes containing the words executive and/or mansion:
“To me the sole hope of human salvation lies in teaching Man to regard himself as an experiment in the realization of God, to regard his hands as Gods hand, his brain as Gods brain, his purpose as Gods purpose. He must regard God as a helpless Longing, which longed him into existence by its desperate need for an executive organ.”
—George Bernard Shaw (18561950)
“Look,
I draw the sword myself; take it, and hit
The innocent mansion of my love, my heart.
Fear not, tis empty of all things but grief.”
—William Shakespeare (15641616)
