He will be succeeded by governor-elect Steve Bullock, also a Democrat, who was elected on November 6, 2012. Montana's two U.S. senators are Max Baucus and Jon Tester, both Democrats. The state's congressional representative is currently Republican Dennis Rehberg, who will be succeeded in office by representative-elect Steve Daines, also a Republican.

Famous quotes containing the words law and/or government:

“If the law supposes that,” said Mr. Bumble, squeezing his hat emphatically in both hands, “the law is a ass—a idiot. If that’s the eye of the law, the law is a bachelor; and the worst I wish the law is, that his eye may be opened by experience—by experience.”
    Charles Dickens (1812–1870)

To establish any mode to abolish war, however advantageous it might be to Nations, would be to take from such Government the most lucrative of its branches.
    Thomas Paine (1737–1809)
