Mongolian Academy of Sciences

The Mongolian Academy of Sciences (Mongolian: Монгол улсын Шинжлэх ухааны Академи, Mongol ulsyn Shinjlekh ukhaany Akademi) is Mongolia's first centre of modern sciences. Knowledge has always been of high regard and great value for Mongolians. It was in the 13th century when Mongolians, the Great Khaan Khubilai in particular, established the first academic institution of the nation, called “The Academy of Worthies”. Mongolia’s first center of modern science came into being in 1921 when the government of newly independent Mongolia issued a resolution declaring the establishment of “The Institute of Literature and Scripts”, which was later upgraded into “The Institute of Sciences” and “ The Institute of Sciences and Higher Education”. In 1961, it was finally reorganized as “The Mongolian Academy of Sciences” MAS. At present there are 21 research institutes, centers, two affiliated academies and one library under MAS.

Famous quotes containing the words academy and/or sciences:

When the State wishes to endow an academy or university, it grants it a tract of forest land: one saw represents an academy, a gang, a university.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Criticism is a study by which men grow important and formidable at very small expense. The power of invention has been conferred by nature upon few, and the labour of learning those sciences which may, by mere labour, be obtained, is too great to be willingly endured; but every man can exert some judgment as he has upon the works of others; and he whom nature has made weak, and idleness keeps ignorant, may yet support his vanity by the name of critic.
    Samuel Johnson (1709–1784)
