Asha'ri made his international senior debut for Malaysia against India on July 22, 2008. Ashaari scored his first international goals in Malaysia 6-0 trashing of Afghanistan in the 2008 Merdeka Tournament, where Ashaari scored twice.
In November 2010, Asha'ri was called up to the Malaysia national squad by coach K. Rajagopal for the 2010 AFF Suzuki Cup. Ashaari scored 1 goal for Malaysia against Indonesia in the first leg of the final to secure a 3-0 win, and helping Malaysia en route to win the AFF Suzuki Cup for the first time in their history.
