The market was previously served by: The Minnesota Fighting Saints of the WHA (1972-6, 1976-7) and the Minnesota North Stars of the NHL (1967–1993)
The franchise became known as: Manitoba Moose (1996-2011) (now the St. John's IceCaps)
The franchise was replaced by: Minnesota Wild of the NHL (2000-2011)

The Winnipeg Jets returned to the NHL and the team moved to St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador in 2011 to become the St. John's IceCaps.
