The 1963 season was the Golden Gophers' tenth under head coach Murray Warmath. The Golden Gophers won three games and lost six. Total attendance for the season was 286,797, which averaged to 57,759. The season high for attendance was against Michigan.

Tackle Carl Eller was named an All-American by the Walter Camp Football Foundation, United Press International, Associated Press, TV Guide, Look Magazine, The Sporting News, CBS-TV, Time Magazine, New York News, American Football Coaches Association and Football Writers Association of America. Eller was also named All-Big Ten first team. Center Frank Marchiewski was named All-Big Ten second team. Offensive lineman Milt Sunde was named Academic All-Big Ten.

Carl Eller was awarded the Team MVP Award.
