Mildred Scheel

Mildred Scheel (* 31 December 1932 in Cologne as Mildred Wirtz, † 13 May 1985 in Cologne) was a German physician, the second wife of the German President of the Federal Republic Walter Scheel and the founder of the German Cancer Aid. As the First Lady (1974–1979), she immediately established this Non-profit organization to fight all kinds of cancer. With this social engagement, she became one of the most famous German women after World War II and enjoyed a high international reputation.
