In May 2012, Israel offered procurement of Merkava IV tanks to Colombia. The sale would include 25 to 40 tanks, as well as a number of Namer APCs. With the threat of the expanding Venezuelan military, it would strengthen Colombian armored forces against Venezuelan T-72 tanks.
