2012 Congressional Election
Following the resignation of incumbent Democrat U.S. Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, Heinz announced his candidacy for the special election for the seat. Governor Jan Brewer announced April 17 to be the date for the primary election, and June 12 for the special general election.
