Material Action For 2 Microphones is a cassette album the band Merzbow consisting of Masami Akita and Kiyoshi Mitzutani. The album was originally recorded and released on 1981 and then reissued on 1984 with additional synthesizers by Mitzutani recorded on 1982. The term "Material Action" was taken from Otto Muehl and refers to a term for using household objects to make quiet sounds, which were then amplified, inspired by John Cage's "Cartridge Music".
The track "Yumin, Non Stop Disco" consists of distorted samples from the early work of singer Yumi Matsutoya.
This recording was used as raw material for other works such as Material Action 2 N.A.M. released on 1983 while the album was later reissued in CD format as part of the 50-CD box set, Merzbox as CD 8 with a different track listing than the original release.

Famous quotes containing the words material, action and/or microphones:
“Mans characteristic privilege is that the bond he accepts is not physical but moral; that is, social. He is governed not by a material environment brutally imposed on him, but by a conscience superior to his own, the superiority of which he feels. Because the greater, better part of his existence transcends the body, he escapes the bodys yoke, but is subject to that of society.”
—Emile Durkheim (18581917)
“Power is action; the electoral principle is discussion. No political action is possible when discussion is permanently established.”
—HonorĂ© De Balzac (17991850)
“The present century has not dealt kindly with the farmer. His legends are all but obsolete, and his beliefs have been pared away by the professors at colleges of agriculture. Even the farm- bred bards who twang guitars before radio microphones prefer Im Headin for the Last Roundup to Turkey in the Straw or Father Put the Cows Away.”
—For the State of Kansas, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)
