Massachusetts's 9th Congressional District

Massachusetts's 9th congressional district is in eastern Massachusetts, including part of Boston and some of its southern suburbs. It is currently represented by Stephen Lynch, who has served the district since 2001. It has subsumed much of the former 11th District in the south suburbs of Boston. With a population (as of 2000) of 634,062 it has the lowest population of Massachusetts's ten congressional districts.

Redistricting after the 2010 census eliminates the Massachusetts's 10th congressional district, and moves many of the districts communities here. The district also adds some Plymouth County communities from the old 4th district, and some Bristol County communities from the old 3rd and 4th districts. It eliminates a few easternmost Norfolk County communities and northernmost Plymouth county communities. The old 9th District is essentially the new 8th district. After redistricting, Bill Keating will represent the district in 2013.
