Masato Tsujioka - Biography

Biography

Tsujioka was a model and an actor in Osaka when he was cast in Shinya Tsukamoto's 1998 movie Bullet Ballet at 17 years of age. He moved to Tokyo, and decided to stay there after filming ended to make his own films. Being a first time director with a very limited budget, he did most of work in front of and behind the camera on Lost By Dead (2002), including acting in the lead role, Akira. The film reflects some of his own teenage experiences with excessive violence, and it took over three years to complete. The film was distributed by There's Enterprise Inc., who distributed Tsukamo's movie Bullet Ballet.

By 2006, he directed his second feature, Divide, which was shown at many international film festivals around the world, including the Toronto ReelHeART International Film Festival, where it won a best director award.
