The GRC saw its fiercest contest in the general election in 2011 where National Solidarity Party candidates led by Nicole Seah managed to get over 43% of the vote despite walkovers in the previous three general elections. Before 2011, it remained uncontested after the 1992 by-election which saw a four-way contest involving the National Solidarity Party, Singapore Democratic Party and Singapore Justice Party (now part of the Singapore Democratic Alliance).

Famous quotes containing the words marine, parade, group and/or constituency:

God has a hard-on for a Marine because we kill everything we see. He plays His game, we play ours.
    Stanley Kubrick (b. 1928)

With the greater part of rich people, the chief enjoyment of riches consists in the parade of riches, which in their eyes is never so complete as when they appear to possess those decisive marks of opulence which nobody can possess but themselves.
    Adam Smith (1723–1790)

...Women’s Studies can amount simply to compensatory history; too often they fail to challenge the intellectual and political structures that must be challenged if women as a group are ever to come into collective, nonexclusionary freedom.
    Adrienne Rich (b. 1929)

But also the constituency determines the vote of the representative. He is not only representative, but participant. Like can only be known by like. The reason why he knows about them is, that he is of them; he has just come out of nature, or from being a part of the thing.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
