Tennis Career

On November 6, 2006, Gicquel broke into the top 50 after reaching his first ATP Tour final in Lyon, where he was defeated by Richard Gasquet, his countryman. On April 30, 2007, Gicquel broke into the top 40 after reaching the semifinals of Casablanca. He achieved his career-high singles ranking of World No. 37 in September 2008.

He defeated second seed Tommy Robredo at the 2007 Grand Prix de Tennis de Lyon in the first round, and beat Alejandro Falla in the semifinals to reach the Lyon final for two years running. Gicquel's run, however, was halted by another Frenchman, Sébastien Grosjean.
