Aberfeldie Football Club: EDFL Career
In 2012, Mal Michael decided to join Essendon District Football League side Aberfeldie Football Club which includes ex AFL players such as Damien Peverill, Courtney Johns (Essendon), Hayden Skipworth (Essendon), David Fanning (Collingwood) and Tommy Hislop (Essendon and Richmond Tigers). Still considered to be one of the best fullbacks outside of AFL as he shut down many ex AFL players and as well as star forwards in the EDFL, Mal was appointed caretaker playing senior coach of Aberfeldie Football Club on 5 July 2012 when the 2011-12 coach John McMillan stood down from the position at the end of Round 11. On 3 October, 2012 Mal Michael was officially re-appointed as coach of Aberfeldie for Season 2013, albeit he will concentrate solely on coaching and will no longer play.
