Major League Baseball Schedule

Major League Baseball Schedule

The Major League Baseball season consists of 162 games played over approximately 180 days, depending on the year and the team. The season typically runs from early April to late September, followed by the postseason in October. The postseason (playoffs) can add up to 20 more games.

The season begins with the official Opening Day and runs 26 weeks through the last Sunday of September or first Sunday of October. One or more International Opener games may be scheduled outside the United States and Canada before the official Opening Day. Not every team plays every day, but there are daily games except during the All-Star Game break. Individual teams might not play on some Mondays and/or Thursdays.

The current schedule of Major League Baseball makes it the only major professional sports league to play during the daylight saving time hours from the beginning to the end of the season, although on some occasions they have played games during standard time hours.

Famous quotes containing the words major, league and/or baseball:

Self-centeredness is a natural outgrowth of one of the toddler’s major concerns: What is me and what is mine...? This is why most toddlers are incapable of sharing ... to a toddler, what’s his is what he can get his hands on.... When something is taken away from him, he feels as though a piece of him—an integral piece—is being torn from him.
    Lawrence Balter (20th century)

I am not impressed by the Ivy League establishments. Of course they graduate the best—it’s all they’ll take, leaving to others the problem of educating the country. They will give you an education the way the banks will give you money—provided you can prove to their satisfaction that you don’t need it.
    Peter De Vries (b. 1910)

I don’t like comparisons with football. Baseball is an entirely different game. You can watch a tight, well-played football game, but it isn’t exciting if half the stadium is empty. The violence on the field must bounce off a lot of people. But you can go to a ball park on a quiet Tuesday afternoon with only a few thousand people in the place and thoroughly enjoy a one-sided game. Baseball has an aesthetic, intellectual appeal found in no other team sport.
    Bowie Kuhn (b. 1926)
