Maine Superior Court

The Maine Superior Court is the trial court of general jurisdiction in the Maine state court system.

All state jury trials are held in the Superior Court. The court is located in each of Maine's 16 counties (with two locations in Aroostook County). The Court consists of 17 justices who all have statewide jurisdiction and travel to the different courthouses to hold court. Justices are nominated by the Governor and confirmed by the Maine Senate and are appointed to seven-year terms.

Famous quotes containing the words maine, superior and/or court:

I have been oranging and fat,
    carrot colored, gaped at,
allowing my cracked o’s to drop on the sea
    near Venice and Mombasa.
    Over Maine I have rested.
    Anne Sexton (1928–1974)

Discourage litigation. Persuade your neighbors to compromise whenever you can. Point out to them how the nominal winner is often a real loser—in fees, expenses, and waste of time. As a peacemaker the lawyer has a superior opportunity of being a good man. There will still be business enough.
    Abraham Lincoln (1809–1865)

“But such as you and I do not seem old
Like men who live by habit. Every day
I ride with falcon to the river’s edge
Or carry the ringed mail upon my back,
Or court a woman; neither enemy,
Game-bird, nor woman does the same thing twice....”
    William Butler Yeats (1865–1939)
