Village Shop
The village shop opened in 1889. It was a branch of Walton’s Department Store of Mere. It sold most things – groceries, clothes, shoes, drapery, even furniture. The village stores is now run by the Maiden Bradley Village Shop Association. The post office is housed in the same building. It is a successful venture and the subject of a Countryside Agency report. It also attracted the interest of the BBC.

Famous quotes containing the words village and/or shop:
“This is the village where the funeral
Stilted its dusty march over deep ruts
Up the hillside covered with queens lace
To the patch of weeds known finally to all.”
—Allen Tate (18991979)
“Here thou art painted in the dress
Of an inhuman murderess;
Examining upon our hearts
Thy fertile shop of cruel arts:
Engines more keen than ever yet
Adorned tyrants cabinet,
Of which the most tormenting are
Black eyes, red lips, and curled hair.”
—Andrew Marvell (16211678)
