Magellan Charter School

Magellan Charter School

The Magellan Charter School is a charter school in Raleigh, North Carolina. It was founded by Marybeth Childers and George Coccarelli. Today it is considered to be one of the best charter schools in North Carolina. Magellan was founded on the premise that learning can be a dynamic interactive and fun experience. The founders also envisioned an environment where parents are welcomed as a crucial part of school experience itself. Through the efforts of many devoted, hardworking people, those who attend Magellan would believe that the founders goal has been achieved. The charter was approved by the state in 1997, and Magellan became one of the state's first charter schools. Its principal is Mary Griffin. Also two years after the foundation of Magellan, Raleigh Charter was created by some parents of 8th graders at The Magellan Charter School who decided to establish a new charter high school so that their students could continue to learn in a nurturing and academically rich environment like they received at Magellan.

Famous quotes containing the words charter and/or school:

When Britain first, at Heaven’s command,
Arose from out the azure main,
This was the charter of her land,
And guardian angels sung the strain:
Rule, Britannia! Britannia rules the waves!
    Britons never shall be slaves.
    James Thomson (1700–1748)

I seemed intent on making it as difficult for myself as possible to pursue my “male” career goal. I not only procrastinated endlessly, submitting my medical school application at the very last minute, but continued to crave a conventional female role even as I moved ahead with my “male” pursuits.
    Margaret S. Mahler (1897–1985)
