Magalang, Pampanga - Government and Politics

Government and Politics

Like other towns in the Philippines, Magalang is governed by a mayor and vice mayor who are elected to three-year terms. The mayor is the executive head and leads the town's departments in executing the Sangunian Bayan's ordinances and improving public services. The vice mayor heads a legislative council consisting of councilors, as members. Businessman Romulo F. Pecson was the real winner of the May 2007 mayoralty election here and was re-elected on 2010. Former Magalang mayor Lyndon Cunanan is set to stage a comeback here in the 2013 mayoralty race.

October 5, 2012, former Mayor Lyndon Cunanan and his former Vice Mayor Norman Lacson have reunited to regain their positions in government. Cunanan and Lacson filed their certificates of candidacy for mayor and vice mayor, respectively, before the local Commission on Elections office. Cunanan was first elected mayor in 2007. However, his win was disputed by then businessman-turned-Mayor Romulo Pecson because of election fraud. By virtue of a Supreme Court order, Cunanan vacated his post in 2009. Pecson then sat as municipal mayor.

Famous quotes containing the words government and/or politics:

The government will support you to the utmost of its ability, which is neither more nor less than it has done and will do for all commanders.
    Abraham Lincoln (1809–1865)

Politics are for foreigners with their endless wrongs and paltry rights. Politics are a lousy way to get things done. Politics are, like God’s infinite mercy, a last resort.
