Famous quotes containing the words mad, dog and/or time:

Men first feel necessity, then look for utility, next attend to comfort, still later amuse themselves with pleasure, thence grow dissolute in luxury, and finally go mad and waste their substance.
    Giambattista Vico (1688–1744)

The dog is mentioned in the Bible eighteen times—the cat not even once.
—W.E. Farbstein. Quoted in “Hundkeit,” Mondo Canine, ed. Jon Winokur, Dutton (1991)

    Absence, hear my protestation
    Against thy strength
    Distance and length,
Do what thou canst for alteration:
    For hearts of truest metal
Absence doth join, and Time doth settle.
    John Hoskyns (1566–1638)
