Mac Gregor State High School - History

History

MacGregor State High School was opened in 1969 with nine teachers and 203 students. The first school principal was Mr. J.E.R. Pearson. The school was named for Sir William MacGregor, governor of Queensland from 1909 until 1914. The Clan MacGregor's Australian Chieftain, Mrs Jean McGregor-Lowndes, was its first patron, and many of the school's icons and emblems reflect a Scottish theme. MacGregor State High School is proud of the diverse background of its students from Australia and overseas countries. As tradition they celebrate multiculturalism through an annual week of celebration.

On 4 November 1973 at 6:30 pm, a tornado struck the school, causing hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of damage which resulted in the rebuilding of a large proportion of the school.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

The history of all Magazines shows plainly that those which have attained celebrity were indebted for it to articles similar in natureto Berenice—although, I grant you, far superior in style and execution. I say similar in nature. You ask me in what does this nature consist? In the ludicrous heightened into the grotesque: the fearful coloured into the horrible: the witty exaggerated into the burlesque: the singular wrought out into the strange and mystical.
    Edgar Allan Poe (1809–1849)

Man watches his history on the screen with apathy and an occasional passing flicker of horror or indignation.
    Conor Cruise O’Brien (b. 1917)

There is a constant in the average American imagination and taste, for which the past must be preserved and celebrated in full-scale authentic copy; a philosophy of immortality as duplication. It dominates the relation with the self, with the past, not infrequently with the present, always with History and, even, with the European tradition.
    Umberto Eco (b. 1932)
