Louisiana Music Factory - History

History

The store was opened in February 1992 by two founders Jerry Brock and Barry Smith on Peters Street in the French Quarter. Brock had been known as one of the founders of the local radio station WWOZ, and a producer who first recorded the Dirty Dozen Brass Band.

In 1996, the store moved to the current location on Decatur Street within the French Quarter. The new store is two-storied devoting the second floor to vintage vinyl. In 2001, Brock left the store to pursue other opportunities, and Smith became the sole owner.

The store suffered little damage by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and was one of the first record stores to reopen after the storm.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

... the history of the race, from infancy through its stages of barbarism, heathenism, civilization, and Christianity, is a process of suffering, as the lower principles of humanity are gradually subjected to the higher.
    Catherine E. Beecher (1800–1878)

History does nothing; it does not possess immense riches, it does not fight battles. It is men, real, living, who do all this.... It is not “history” which uses men as a means of achieving—as if it were an individual person—its own ends. History is nothing but the activity of men in pursuit of their ends.
    Karl Marx (1818–1883)

... in America ... children are instructed in the virtues of the system they live under, as though history had achieved a happy ending in American civics.
    Mary McCarthy (1912–1989)
