Louisiana Highway 3089 - Route Description

Route Description

From the west, LA 3089 begins at a junction with LA 1 and LA 18 in Donaldsonville. Immediately after passing Bayou Lafourche, it meets LA 308 and LA 945. Just after leaving the city limits, LA 3089 ends at an antiquated interchange with LA 70. Prior to LA 70's extension into Ascension Parish from LA 1 in Plattenville in 1977, LA 3089 was signed to the Sunshine Bridge. Originally, the road only included the bridge and connector ramps, starting at LA 48, crossing the bridge, and then taking present-day LA 3120 to intersect with LA 18 east of Donaldsonville. By the late 1960s, the route was extended westward on its present routing to connect to Donaldsonville, and in 1966, the route extended eastward to intersect with LA 22 near I-10.

LA 3089 provides a shorter and faster route for traffic travelling between LA 1/LA 308 (and points along Bayou Lafourche) and the Sunshine Bridge (via LA 70) and New Orleans (via LA 3127, just south of the terminus at LA 70). It is four lanes for its entirety, and is divided upon leaving the city limits.

Famous quotes containing the words route and/or description:

But however the forms of family life have changed and the number expanded, the role of the family has remained constant and it continues to be the major institution through which children pass en route to adulthood.
    Bernice Weissbourd (20th century)

The Sage of Toronto ... spent several decades marveling at the numerous freedoms created by a “global village” instantly and effortlessly accessible to all. Villages, unlike towns, have always been ruled by conformism, isolation, petty surveillance, boredom and repetitive malicious gossip about the same families. Which is a precise enough description of the global spectacle’s present vulgarity.
    Guy Debord (b. 1931)
