The town is governed by five elected council members with the position of Mayor rotating between council members each year. Half the council is elected to a four-year term every two years. There are no term limits for the Town Council.
In the state legislature, Los Gatos is located in the 15th Senate District, represented by Republican Sam Blakeslee, and in the 21st Assembly District, represented by Democrat Rich Gordon. Federally, Los Gatos is located in California's 15th congressional district, which has a Cook PVI of D +14 and is represented by Democrat Mike Honda.
