History
In the past "Çekoslovakyalılaştıramadıklarımızdanmısınız" which means "Are you one of those people whom we couldn't make to be originating from Czechoslovakia?" was commonly said to be the longest word in Turkish. However, the question suffixes (mısınız in this case) are written separately, so though it is one word, it seems like two words when the word is written. Also, longer versions of this word could be made easily, such as "Çekoslovakyalılaştırabildiklerimizden miydiniz?". For these reasons, the word lost its popularity, but it is still a popular tongue-twister in Turkey.
After the dissolution of Czechoslovakia, Afyonkarahisarlılaştırabildiklerimizdenmişsinizcesine which is similar to the current one was thought to be the longest word in Turkish for some time. It is a longer word and contains no spaces. It means "As if you are one of the people that we made to be originating from Afyonkarahisar". After discovery of longer words, it lost its popularity.

Famous quotes containing the word history:
“I am ashamed to see what a shallow village tale our so-called History is. How many times must we say Rome, and Paris, and Constantinople! What does Rome know of rat and lizard? What are Olympiads and Consulates to these neighboring systems of being? Nay, what food or experience or succor have they for the Esquimaux seal-hunter, or the Kanaka in his canoe, for the fisherman, the stevedore, the porter?”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“A people without history
Is not redeemed from time, for history is a pattern
Of timeless moments.”
—T.S. (Thomas Stearns)
“At present cats have more purchasing power and influence than the poor of this planet. Accidents of geography and colonial history should no longer determine who gets the fish.”
—Derek Wall (b. 1965)
