The CDOs were purchased through an agreement such that, should the CDOs become worthless, Lone Star's losses were limited to at most $2 billion with Merrill Lynch taking the rest of the loss, so that in effect the CDOs were purchased at only 6% of face value.
  • On July 1, 2008, CIT Group announced that it will be selling its home lending division to Lone Star Funds for $1.5 billion in cash including the assumption of $4.4 billion in debt.
