Collection Ban
As of August 4, 2008 CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) banned the collection of live rock from Tonga, the Marshall Islands, and the Cook Islands. This is due to the over-collecting of rock in these areas.
The Secretariat has lifted all of the CITES restrictions in the recently banned countries for exporting species listed in Appendix II. This includes Tonga, Fiji, and Australia. Most notably, Tonga rock and corals and Fiji corals are available once again.
