Live at Wood Hall

The concert repertoire captured on these discs encompasses a range of genres from roots & blues, through folk, pop/rock, jazz and Broadway. rough the artist's concert repertoire, freshly recorded in the converted chapel of Victoria (B.C.)'s Alongside more than an album's worth of original songs, Allison covers some of her favourite artists of today - Ani DiFranco's "Independence Day", Tori Amos' "Playboy Mommy", Counting Crows' "A Murder of One" - and classic rock - John Lennon's "Imagine" and "Me and Bobby McGee", a song penned by Fred Foster and Kris Kristofferson and recorded most famously by Janis Joplin. She also gives a nod to Broadway with "Bill" (from Show Boat) and "I Dreamed a Dream" (from Les Misérables). Add in some jazz, "In Love in Vain", and a traditional Irish air, "Believe Me, if All Those Endearing Young Charms", and the result is the sort of eclectic mix for which the artist is becoming known.

Famous quotes containing the words live at, live and/or wood:

I thus could not live, and I admitted it, unless on the entire earth, all creatures, or at least the greatest number, were turned toward me, eternally vacant, deprived of an independent life, ready at any moment to respond to my call, given to sterility until the day I deigned to grace them with my light. In short, for me to live happily, it was necessary for those chosen by me not to live at all.
    Albert Camus (1913–1960)

yes, set fire to frostbitten crops,
    drag out forgotten fruit
    to dance the flame-tango,
    the smoke-gavotte,
    to live after all....
    Denise Levertov (b. 1923)

    Ashtrays to cry into,
the suffering brother of the wood walls,
the forty-eight keys of the typewriter
each an eyeball that is never shut,
the books, each a contestant in a beauty contest,
the black chair, a dog coffin made of Naugahyde....
    Anne Sexton (1928–1974)
