List of Yellow Buses Routes - Previous Services (Transdev Era)

Previous Services (Transdev Era)

The following services listed here were withdrawn while Transdev owned the Yellows.

  • 2: Bournemouth Triangle - Bournemouth Hospital via Rail Station & Springbourne
This service replaced what was part of Routes 33 & 34 before the Big Network Change of July 2006
This service was in turn replaced by the 2a/2b/2c service from 22 July 2007 (using a slightly different route).

This meant that a large number of people living in the Littledown area were deprived of a bus service to Bournemouth town centre. This caused much disruption and dismay, and was only rectified when route 39 was introduced a year later.

  • 3a: Westbourne - Iford via Bournemouth, Charminster, Castlepoint and Bournemouth Hospital
This was the replacement for the 32 when the Big Network Change of July 2006 was implemented, originally running between Bournemouth Square and Christchurch Civic Offices via the station, leaving out Richmond Hill and the section of route between Christchurch and Highcliffe. A year on from the big change, the section of route between Iford and Christchurch was withdrawn, but was extended beyond Bournemouth Square to Westbourne, thereby serving Westover Road and not Bournemouth Pier.
This service was replaced by Route 3 from 25 May 2008 running between Bournemouth Square and Bournemouth Hospital
  • 3b: Westbourne - Boscombe via Bournemouth, Charminster, Castlepoint, Townsend, Bournemouth Hospital, Holdenhurst Avenue and Kings Park
This was the replacement for Route 35 when the Big Network Change of July 2006 was implemented. There was, however, no major changes to the overall route apart from running via the Station and not Richmond Hill. A year on from the big change, the service was extended beyond Bournemouth Square to Westbourne, thereby serving Westover Road and not Bournemouth Pier.
Parts of this service were replaced by three routes from 25 May 2008
- Route 3 between Bournemouth Square and Bournemouth Hospital via Charminster and Castlepoint
- Routes 2a/2b between Broadway Tavern and Boscombe via Castlepoint, Townsend, Bournemouth Hospital, Iford and Pokesdown
- Route 39 between Bournemouth Hospital and Boscombe via Holdenhurst Avenue and Kings Park (this service also continues to Bournemouth Square from Boscombe)
  • 3c: Westbourne - Castlepoint via Bournemouth and Charminster
This service was brought in on 2 July 2007 to provide a 10minute general frequency of Route 3 buses between Westbourne and Castlepoint, thereby matching Wilts & Dorset's M1 More Bus frequency.
This service was replaced by Route 3 from 25 May 2008 running between Bournemouth Square and Bournemouth Hospital
  • 6a: Bournemouth - Wallisdown Canford Avenue via Winton & University
This service was originally launched as a replacement for Route 10 in July 2006's Big Network Change and ran between Bournemouth & Kinson via Winton, University, Canford Avenue and Poole Lane. In May 2008, the route was shortened with alternate journeys terminating at either Wallisdown Roundabout or Canford Avenue. Route 6 replaces the majority of this route, with the Canford Avenue part of the route being taken up by the extension of Route 36.
  • 6b: Bournemouth - West Howe via Winton, University, Wallisdown & High Howe
This service was originally launched as a replacement for Route 9 in July 2006's Big Network Change and ran between Bournemouth & Kinson via Winton, University, Wallisdown, High Howe & Bear Cross. In May 2008, the route was changed beyond High Howe to serve West Howe and no longer serve Bear Cross & Kinson. This route is replaced by the new Service 6 from 6 June 2010.
  • 6c: Bournemouth - Canford Heath via Winton, University & Wallisdown
This service was originally launched as a replacement for Route 69 in July 2006's Big Network Change and ran between Bournemouth & Tower Park via Winton, University, Wallisdown, Alder Hills & Alderney. In July 2007, the service was extended beyond Tower Park to Canford Heath, but in May 2008, the route was changed to run a slightly more direct route to Canford Heath via Wallisdown & Canford Way. This route is replaced by the new Service 6 from 6 June 2010 between Bournemouth and the Mountbattern Roundabout, however, the section of route between the Mountbattern Roundabout and Canford Heath is withdrawn.
  • 12: Christchurch - Sandbanks via Tuckton, Hengistbury Head, Southbourne, Boscombe Pier, East Cliff, Bournemouth Square, Bournemouth Pier, Durley Chine, Alum Chine, Branksome Chine, Compton Acres and Lilliput
Unfortunately, the Open Top Coastal Service has now been withdrawn as of the end of the summer of 2007.
In 2008 a new company (half owned by TYB) took over the running of it on a shorter section of route and once again making it a heritage route, by using 2 VR's (both fully open top) and 2 Fleetlines (one partly open top and the other closed top, both of which are ex-Thamesdown and ex-Yellow Buses). This service was called Seafront12. However, it remained loss-making, and TYB took the decision to stop running the service in June 2009.
  • 27: Poole Bus Station - Kinson via Ringwood Road, Alderney, Bear Wood & Bear Cross. Operated by Your Bus on Mon-Fri.
Route became entirely operated by Yellow Buses from May 2010 (which already ran the Saturday operation of the route). Route was changed in June 2011 with Rossmore Estate added to replace Route 26, Bear Wood being operated through on every journey and also extended beyond Kinson to Northbourne Roundabout with also the service becoming hourly. Further extended to Castlepoint in June 2012.
  • 28a: Bournemouth Triangle - Kinson via Rail Station, Springbourne, Kings Park, Boscombe, Pokesdown, Iford, Bournemouth Hospital, Castlepoint, Moordown and Ensbury Park
This service replaced Route 7 and part of Route 68 in the Big Network Change of July 2006.
This service was replaced by the 2a service from 22 July 2007.
  • 28b: Bournemouth Triangle - Kinson via Rail Station, Springbourne, Kings Park, Boscombe, Pokesdown, Iford, Bournemouth Hospital, Castlepoint, Moordown, Ensbury Park and East Howe
This service replaced Route 8 and part of Route 68 in the Big Network Change of July 2006.
This service was replaced by the 2b service from 22 July 2007.
  • 29: Westbourne - Castlepoint via Coy Pond, Winton & West Way
This service replaced Route 42 in the Big Network Change of July 2006
This service is now operated by Shamrock Buses as Route 42.
  • 37: Bournemouth Triangle Circular via Charminster, Winton & Talbot Woods.
This service was started soon after the changes of July 2006 when the old Route 10 was changed to the 6a and divered away from the inner areas of Talbot Woods. Originally ran Cemetery Junction & Talbot Woods, but after a year, the Charminster & Winton sections were added and were run in different directions to provide loops back to town.
This service was replaced by the 36 from 28 September 2009.
  • 38: Bournemouth Triangle - Bourne Valley Viaduct via Surrey Road.
Service linked to Route 37 at The Triangle with through fares. Service started after W&D withdrew its 160 service.
Replaced by Route 36 from 28 September 2009
  • 40: Bournemouth Square/Pier - Christchurch via East Cliff, Boscombe Gardens, Boscombe Pier, Southbourne Cross Roads, Hengistbury Head and Tuckton Bridge.
With Route 39, this provided a bus every half hour between Bournemouth Square/Pier and Boscombe Gardens via East Cliff. This was a non-open topper replacement for the old 12 route and was run with Single Deck Darts.
Route ran between 29 May 2010 and 2 October 2010.
  • 41: Throop - Boscombe Pier via Castlepoint, Queens Park, Rail Station, Southcote Road & Boscombe Bus Station
This was the only all year round bus service that did not have a new route number given to it during the Big Network Change of July 2006.
After many a year as a Yellow Buses service, TYB lost the contract to run this service as of Sunday 25 May 2008.
After a 3 year spell of being operated by Wilts & Dorset and Shamrock, the Yellows run this route again since 5 September 2011.
  • 94: Throop - Bournemouth & Poole College's Lansdowne & North Road Sites via Broadway Tavern, Castlepoint, Cooper Dean, Bicknell School (Petersfield Road), Avonbourne School, Queens Park Hotel.
This was withdrawn during the Summer Holidays of 2010 after one year of operation due to lack of use.
  • 747: Bournemouth Triangle - Bournemouth Airport via Travel Interchange
This was formally service A1. This service ran irregularly to meet the needs of certain Airliners.
This service is now operated hourly between 7am and 7pm by Discover Dorset as Route A1 using an Optare Versa.

Famous quotes containing the words previous and/or services:

No man tastes pleasures truly, who does not earn them by previous business; and few people do business well, who do nothing else.
Philip Dormer Stanhope, 4th Earl Chesterfield (1694–1773)

    It seems I impregnated Marge
So I do rather feel, by and large,
    Some cash should be tendered
    For services rendered,
But I can’t quite decide what to charge.
