Chai Jin's Story
Further information: Chai Jin- Gao Lian (Chinese: 高廉; pinyin: Gāo Lián) is Gao Qiu's cousin and the corrupt governor of Gaotangzhou (around present-day Gaotang County, Shandong). His relative, Yin Tianxi, bullies Chai Jin's uncle and tried to seize the Chai residence but ends up being killed by Li Kui. Gao is furious and he holds Chai Jin responsible and imprisons the latter. The Liangshan heroes attack Gaotangzhou to rescue Chai Jin but are held off by Gao's black magic. They defeat Gao eventually when Gongsun Sheng arrives and breaks his dark magic. He is slain by Lei Heng after falling off his getaway cloud during his attempt to flee.
- Yin Tianxi (traditional Chinese: 殷天錫; simplified Chinese: 殷天锡; pinyin: Yīn Tiānxī) is Gao Lian's relative. He bullies the people by abusing the privileges from his relations with Gao. Once, he tries to take over Chai Jin's residence and severely beats up Chai's elderly uncle, who eventually died from his injuries. Chai confronts him but Yin shows disrespect and is killed by Li Kui in anger.
- Yu Zhi (Chinese: 于直; pinyin: Yú Zhí), Wen Wenbao (traditional Chinese: 溫文寶; simplified Chinese: 温文宝; pinyin: Wēn Wénbǎo) and Xue Yuanhui (traditional Chinese: 薛元輝; simplified Chinese: 薛元辉; pinyin: Xuē Yuánhuī) are three generals serving under Gao Lian in Gaotangzhou. They are slain in battle by Lin Chong, Qin Ming and Hua Rong respectively.
